Design Learning Opportunities That Apply Technology-Enhanced Instructional Strategies to Support the Needs of All Learners

Student centered learning offers the opportunity take into consideration different learning styles. Treating students equally based merely on their age and grade level left students falling through the cracks based on standardized testing scores or benchmarks based on antiquated outcomes.  Differentiated instruction instead is a teaching theory based on differing instructional approaches based more on diverse and individual student needs in the classroom (Tomlinson 2001).
Using Differentiated instruction allows for personalized education by recognizing a student’s, background and culture, prior learning abilities, preferences in learning, interest and more. It is meant to meet student’s where they are and enhance their abilities further instead of expecting them to meet the set of rigid curriculum set out by standardizing everyone (Hall, Strangman & Meyere, 2003).
I  redesigned a power point presentation on meeting the needs of all student learners following the constructivism theory. Constructivist believe that learning experiences should be “authentic” and produce real-world learning environments that allow the students to construct their own knowledge. Student diversity is measured by learning styles, approaches to learning and intellectual development (Dabbagh, 2006).

Educational leaders need to ensure that curriculum design and instructional strategies and learning environments integrate the right technology for the right students. Some learn visually, kinetically, some auditory.

Enhancing Learning and Teaching

Educational Leaders Must:
  • Identify, use, evaluate, and promote appropriate technologies to enhance and support instruction and standards-based curriculum leading to high levels of student achievement.
  • Facilitate and support collaborative technology-enriched learning environments conducive to innovation for improved learning
  • Provide for learner-centered environments that use technology to meet the individual and diverse needs of all learners.
  • Facilitate the use of technologies to support and enhance instructional methods that develop higher level thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Provide for and ensure that faculty and staff take advantage of quality professional learning opportunities for improved learning and teaching with technology.
